Connect Awards shortlist announced

LONDON - Data and print emerged as the key battlegrounds in this year's Marketing Direct Connect Awards, being held in association with Post-Switch.com, as the shortlist of finalists was unveiled today. You can view a video snapshot of the judging below.

LBM will go head-to-head with Acxiom and Ai Data Intelligence for the ‘Data supplier of the year’ award. The nominees for DM Business Person of the Year include Marc Nohr, managing partner of Kitcatt Nohr Alexander Shaw and Nick Wells, chief executive of TNT Post.

One of the most heavily contested categories is ‘Best digitally printed direct mail pack’ with seven finalists, including Real Digital International and Howard Hunt Group.

Judging took place on Monday 28 July and was chaired by Justin Basini, vice president and head of brand marketing at Capital One.

"As an industry we need to really understand how to get response across the value chain by using customer insight and being better targeted," Basini said. "As we’ve been going through the entries we’ve come across some really great examples of best practice, in terms of creativity, understanding the consumer, driving innovation and delivering real value to clients."

Basini was joined on the panel by retail, media, government and charity marketers including Natasha Hill, director of supporter marketing at Cancer Research UK, the Carbon Trust's head of marketing Shaun Bell and James Davey, head of online marketing at B&Q.

Marketing services company elliottyoung ties with printer NB Group for having the most nominations. Both have been cited four times across the print and data categories.

Another category with seven finalists is ‘Intelligent use of data in a consumer campaign’ where Loyalty Management Group and its work for Nectar is pitted against Proximity London’s Royal Mail project.

The high level of entries in this year’s competition has resulted in double nominations for companies in several categories. Lateral Group has two chances to win the ‘Intelligent Use of data in a direct mail campaign’ award and nominations for Domino’s Pizza and Everest, the home improvement company.

Several companies received two nominations each, including Digital Marketing Group, Concep, The Listening Company, RedEye, Inc Direct and Lateral Group.

The awards ceremony will take place on Monday 22 September at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London.
